Winifred M. “Winnie” Sand, 101 years of age, peacefully passed away on Friday September 12, 2025 at Orchard Park in Bucyrus. Winnie was born March 5, 1924 in Bucyrus to the late Russell and Mayme (Williams) Beattie. She was married June 2, 1946 to Richard C. Sand who preceded her in death on February 15, 2016. Winnie was also preceded in death by son Dr. Neil R. Sand and 2 brothers Robert and Jim Beattie.
Winnie is survived by daughter and son-in-law Paula and Steve Iler of Bucyrus; grandchildren Mark (Michelle) Sand of Florida, Audra (Joseph) Iler-Bidwell of Florida, and Nathan (Greer) Iler of Colorado; great grandchildren, Eliza, Fitzgerald, and Lochlan Bidwell, and Killian and Linden Iler.
Winnie lived her entire life in Bucyrus and graduated from Bucyrus High School in 1942. She was a homemaker and was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church and served on the church council. She was a member and honorary President of the American Legion Post 181 Ladies Auxiliary and for many years volunteered for the American Red Cross and the Hospital Auxiliary. Winnie enjoyed years of bowling at Crawford Lanes and traveled throughout the country with her husband., frequently stopping at their favorite casinos.
The family would like to thank Dr. Roy Harris and the staff at Orchard Park for the dedicated and compassionate care they provided for Winnie during her stay with them.
Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday at 1:00 pm in the Munz-Pirnstill Funeral Home with burial to follow in Nevada Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 11:00 am until the time of the service. The family suggests memorials be made to The American Legion Post #181 and expressions of sympathy can be left at www.munzpirnstill.com
