Vanessa R. (Dummit) Shifer

Biography: Vanessa R. (Dummitt) Schifer, 53 of Bucyrus passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday August 16, 2017 at Bucyrus Community Hospital.  Vanessa was born January 13 1964 in Flemingsburg, KY to the late Charles Dummitt and Wilma (Toller) Dummitt who survives in Bucyrus.  In addition to her father she was preceded in death by her twin brother Kevin Dummitt.


Vanessa was married May 18, 2013 to Ed Schifer who survives along with daughters Rachel (Cory) Welch, Bucyrus and Megan Rene (Ryan) Miller, Sycamore; grandchildren Blaine and Hayleigh; step children Joseph Schifer, Marion, Melissa (Steve) Hinkle, Bucyrus, Victoria Fultz, Galion; step grandchildren Mikinzy, Domenick, Dakota, Cassi, Arli, Rayn, Lexi, and Bennie; step great grandchild Sebastien and one expected; brother Jeff (Judi) Dummitt, Marion as well as numerous nieces, nephews, great niece and great nephews.


Vanessa worked for Colonel Crawford Schools as a Teacher’s Assistant for the past 22 years in the MHDD Dept. For several years she worked as an E.M.T. for Wyandot County and Upper Sandusky.  She lived most of her life in Bucyrus and graduated from Colonel Crawford H.S. in 1982.  She was a member of the Kirkpatrick Church of Christ, was an avid snowman collector and loved her ferrets.


Funeral Services will be held on Monday at 11:00 am in the Munz-Pirnstill Funeral Home with Rev. Don Kelly officiating, burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday from 3:00 until 6:00 pm.  The family suggests memorials be made to the American Diabetes Foundation or the Wounded Warriors.  Expressions of sympathy can be left at www.munzpirnstill.com
