Ruth Evelyn (Geiger) Knappenberger, 93 of rural Bucyrus passed away peacefully early Thursday April 30, 2026, surrounded by her family. Ruth was born July 14, 1932, in Bellevue to the late Bertis K. and Helen B. (Shealy) Geiger. She was married March 16, 1951, to James O. Ulmer who preceded her in death on January 29, 1982. She married Donald Knappenberger on February 14, 1987, and he passed away on October 29, 2018. Ruth was also preceded in death by son-in-law Randy Armstrong and siblings Erma (Albert) Crabaugh, Lois (Loren) Walker, and Eldon (Dolores) Geiger.
Ruth is survived by daughters Nancy (Brad) Stuckman, Sandy Armstrong, and Jackie (Tim) LaRue all of Bucyrus; step children Jim (Terri) Knappenberger of Cincinnati and Jan Yorgen of Pittsburgh, PA; grandchildren Ryan Armstrong, Bucyrus, Nick Stuckman of Decatur, TX, Cory (Natilee) LaRue of Bucyrus, Matthew (Kate) Stuckman of Delaware, Ohio, Kelly (Todd) Cole of Mt. Gilead, Reed Chamberlin of Reno, NV, Eric (Elizabeth) Knappenberger of London, England, Anna Knappenberger and Sarah Knappenberger both of Cincinnati, OH and Ryan (Katie) Yorgen of Pittsburgh, PA; 10 great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews, her caregivers Barb Gerber and Carla Barnett; as well as her companion dog “Tyler”.
Ruth graduated from Sulphur Springs High School and several years ago worked at Farmers-Citizens Bank and for some time at the Emporium. She also farmed and drove the crops to the Ridgeton Elevator. Ruth was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Ridgeton Rd., The Women of the Church, and formerly sang in the church choir. She enjoyed flower gardening, painting, and taking care of fish in her Koi Cove.
Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday at 11:00 am in the St. Paul Lutheran Church on Ridgeton Rd. with Pastor Andrea Taphorn officiating and burial to follow in the Church Cemetery. The family suggests memorials be in the form of contributions to the Crawford County Humane Society or the St. Paul Lutheran Church Memorial Fund.
