Rose Ann Carter

May 25, 1940 — February 9, 2023

Bucyrus

Rose Ann Carter, 82 of Bucyrus, was welcomed into a joyous reunion with her husband, parents, siblings, and other family as she went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, February 9th, 2023. Rose was born on May 25th, 1940, in Harrison Township, Sciotoville, Ohio to the late David and Pheobe (Seibert) Conkel. She was the oldest of the couple’s six children who all preceded her in death: Clara Rule of Portsmouth; Ray Conkel of Bucyrus; Clarence Conkel of Portsmouth; William Conkel of Portsmouth; and Roy Conkel who died in infancy. Rose was also preceded in death by two nephews, Tim Conkel and Martin Conkel.

Rose married the love of her life, Charles Carter, on October 3rd, 1967, and remained with him until his death in January of 2015. While Rose was never blessed with children of her own, Rose was given the gift of being loved by all children. She is survived by Donald (Sherry) Conkel, Dodie Conkel, Darla Sprague, and Melody (Brandon) Stratton, who always considered her their second mother. She was a grandmother-figure to all their children: Dustin, Joella, Haley, Shelby, Natalie, Octavia, Alex, Cory, Eli, Adler, Garrus, Colt, and Kooper. She will also be deeply missed by her sisters-in-law: Mary Conkel, Sandy Conkel, and Donna Conkel; numerous nieces and nephews; her close friends, Glenn and Katey Nickelson; and her pet dog “Piper.”

Rose graduated from Minford High School in 1958. She moved to Bucyrus shortly after marrying Charles. Rose worked at the Bucyrus YMCA for over 40 years where she was lovingly known as “Rosie”. She was the Head Cook, cooking and serving organizations like the Kiwanis and Rotary Clubs. As the YMCA Babysitter, she was so loved by the children that when they grew, they brought their own children in for her to watch.

Rose was known for her big heart, kindness, generosity, and doing whatever she could to help anyone who needed it. Rose played piano for Sharon Christian Holiness Church for many years. She attended Bucyrus Freewill Baptist Church. She enjoyed gardening, canning, working in her flower beds, doing puzzles, crocheting, and watching football, especially The Ohio State Buckeyes. She loved baking cookies and candy and giving them away to everyone at Christmas time.

The family will receive friends at Munz-Pirnstill Funeral Home on Friday, February 17th, from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. Additional visiting hours will be held Saturday, February 18th, from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Erwin-Dodson-Allen Funeral Home in Minford, Ohio. A funeral service will follow at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Zack Conkel officiating. Burial will follow at Harrison Township Cemetery. Memorial donations can be made to Center Cross Faith Church.
