Biography: Richard I. Long, 84 of Bucyrus passed away on Saturday October 1, 2016 at Kindred Health Care in Mansfield. Richard was born July 13, 1932 two miles north of Sulphur Springs in Liberty Twp. to the late John P. and Hulda (Green) Long. He was first married to Lois M. (Eickel) Long on April 21, 1956, she preceded him in death on Nov. 21, 2002. On June 10th2003 he married Carol (Haas) Lauthers Long who survives. In addition to his parents and first wife, he was preceded in death by son Thomas Long, brother Robert Long, step daughter Mary Lou Wilson, and daughter in law Lucy Stewart.
Richard is also survived by sons John Long of Bucyrus and Kenneth (Teresa) Long of Columbus; step sons David (Cheryle) Lauthers and Mark (Tamera) Lauthers both of Bucyrus; granddaughter Shantelle and her children Shaylee and Blaise; step grandchildren Angie, Jeremy, Justin, Jason, Julie, Jamie, and Nathan; step great grand children Lexie, Haleigh, Madison, Landon, Kasen, and Tanner; son in law Eddie Wilson; and many nieces and nephews.
Richard retired from Timken in 1985 and farmed. He graduated from Sulphur Springs H.S. in 1950 and was a U.S. Army Veteran. Richard was a member of the Bucyrus Moose Lodge #669 and the Bucyrus Elks. He enjoyed playing cards and farming. Richard was a member of the Windfall Emmanuel United Church of Christ.
Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday at 1:00 pm in the Munz-Pirnstill Funeral Home with Rev. Dreama Loyd Caudill officiating, burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday from 11:00 am until the time of service. Memorials may be made to the church and expressions of sympathy can be left at munzpirnstill.com
