Rev. Earnest Surgener, 86 of Bucyrus went to be with the Lord on Friday February 10, 2023 at O.S.U. Hospital in Columbus following a lengthy illness.  Earnest was born Sept. 9, 1936 in Cawood Ky where his father served as a Sunday School Superintendent in the church of God for 25 years.  He was born to the late James and Maggie (Beach) Surgener.  Earnest was married for over 58 years to Betty (Short) Surgener who preceded him in death on February 18, 2016.  He was also preceded in death by brothers Ted, Jimmy, Manzo, Joe, and Denver, as well as sister Minerva Hensley. 

Rev. Surgener is survived by sons Richard (Tracy), Terry (Shelly), and Chester (Diana); grandchildren Jessica, Lana, Stephanie, Shaun, Josh, Bryan, Brittany, Zachary, and Katelyn; 12 great grandchildren; brothers Finley, Robert, and Lynn; as well as many nieces, nephews, and friends.

Earnest was a U.S. Navy Veteran and retired from General Motors in Ontario.  He served over 25 years as an ordained Minister in the Church of God, many of which were in Bucyrus.  Earnest was recognized by the City of Bucyrus for his numerous home renovations, remodeling projects, and expansion of the Church building, making Bucyrus a better place to live and raise families.  Pastor was an avid bowler and rolled a perfect 300 game in Bucyrus.

A Private Graveside Service was held at Oakwood Cemetery on Monday with a Celebration of Life Service to be held at a later date to be announced.  Memorials may be made to the Bucyrus Church of God through the Munz-Pirnstill Funeral Home and expressions of sympathy can be left at www.munzpirnstill.com
