Paul Eugene
Hoeffel
August 2, 1945 – April 2, 2026
Paul Eugene Hoeffel, 80, of Bucyrus, Ohio, passed away peacefully on April 2, 2026, at OhioHealth Mansfield Hospital, with his loving wife at his side.
He was born on August 2, 1945, in Defiance, Ohio, to the late Clare A. Hoeffel and Loretta (McGrath) Hoeffel.
A devoted husband of 52 years, Paul was a highly respected attorney who practiced law for more than five decades. He was a founding partner of Kennedy, Purdy, Hoeffel & Gernert in Bucyrus, where he focused on personal injury, business litigation, insurance law, and general civil litigation. Throughout his distinguished career, he served clients across Crawford County and surrounding communities. He began his legal career in 1973 after earning his Juris Doctor from the University of Toledo College of Law.
Paul loved his work and took great pride in helping so many people in his community, many of whom he served for decades, continuing to do so even after his retirement. He was known for his professionalism, integrity, and unwavering commitment to his clients. In recognition of his excellence, he was named a Super Lawyer and earned a Distinguished Peer Rating, reflecting the deep respect of his colleagues.
A private and thoughtful man, Paul cherished quiet moments and the simple joys of life. He found great happiness in flying his Cessna 172, a passion he enjoyed for many years. In retirement, he spent countless hours in the barn caring for his wife’s horses, animals he came to like. A lifelong Cleveland Browns fan, Paul endured many seasons with loyalty and humor. He can now finally rest easy, free from another season of heartbreak. Above all, he was devoted to his wife, Marcia, and was a loving brother and uncle.
In addition to Marcia, he is survived by his brother, Lee Hoeffel; mother-in-law, Wilma Bennett; brother-in-law, Keith Bennett (Kathy); his nieces, Patricia Morgan (Jon), Diane Hardesty (Lee), Kim Cousino (Bobby); his nephews, David Hoeffel (Melissa), Ron Bennett (Beth), Jeff Bennett (Gretchen); and numerous great-nieces and great-nephews. He was preceded in death by his father-in-law, Marvin Bennett; sister-in-law, Elaine Hoeffel; and nephews, Mark Bennett and Jeff Bennett.
A private graveside service was held on Saturday, April 4, 2026. The family appreciates your thoughts and prayers.
Paul will be remembered for his deep love for Marcia and his family, his modest dignity and the kindness he showed to all who knew him. Private by nature, he had a gentle spirit and a steady, quiet kindness that will be missed by so many.
