Norbert Leroy Riester, born on September 24, 1935, in Marion, Ohio passed away in Bucyrus, Ohio. He was 90-years old. 

Norbert spent most of his life in Marion, Ohio, where he attended St. Mary’s School graduating in 1954. Norbert worked for Fulfillment of America for 18 years and served in the National Guard for six years. After working at Knowlton Farms, Special Packaging, and Baja Boats for 15 years, he retired.

 Norbert lived with his parents, William and Agnes Riester, taking care of them through illness until they passed in 1979 and 1978, respectively. In later years, Norbert married the love of his life, Sandra Joyce Bayless Conley, on July 1, 1989. The couple made their home in Bucyrus. 

He was preceded in death by his wife, Sandy, on August 10, 2023; by his six brothers: Frank Jr., Harold, Robert, Charles, Richard, and Raymond, and stepson Gregory Conley. Norbert is remembered fondly by his eleven nieces and nephews residing in Texas and Ohio. Niece, Cynthia and her husband, Don Hoggat, were an enormous comfort to Norbert in his twilight years. Norbert is survived by his stepson Todd (Kelli) Conley, step-daughter-in-law, Beth Conley; and grandchildren: Christopher (Alex) Conley, Josh (Christine Sutton) Conley, Megan (TJ) Usrey, Kali (Karey Morgan) Lewis, Alison (Jon) Dominguez, Jacob Conley, Hannah Conley, and Sophia Conley. 

Norbert’s family history reflects a remarkable coincidence. His mother’s great-grandparents, Lawrence and Magdalena Reindl, immigrated from Bavaria, Germany to Crawford County, Ohio. His father’s great-grandparents, Michael and Lavina Riester, were born in Baden, Germany and lived in Crawford, County, Ohio.

 Norbert was a quiet, thoughtful and caring man whom we will all miss. He loved watching old movies and TV shows; he knew all the actors by name. Though a life-long Catholic, he would often help his wife Sandy decorate her Sunday School classroom at another local church. Norb had a very dry sense of humor he used to entertain his family and friends. A devoted husband and grandfather, Norbert enjoyed driving his wife and grandchildren around on Sunday afternoons, stopping for Slush Puppies, and listening to Frank Sinatra (for Norb) and Patsy Cline (for Sandy). 

To commemorate his life, service will be at the Munz-Pirnstill Funeral Home in Bucyrus, OH on Saturday July 18, 2026, at 11am with Father Paul Fahrbach officiating. Friends may call one hour prior to the service. It is suggested that memorials be in the form of contributions to Holy Trinity Catholic Church.
