Nelson “Ed” Smith Jr.

Biography:  Nelson “Ed” Smith Jr. 78 of Marion passed away on Wednesday June 27, 2018 at Altercare in Bucyrus.  Ed was born August 26, 1939 in Bucyrus OH.  His parents were Nelson E. Smith Sr. and Dona (Oborn) Smith McKnight.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sisters Nancy Herschler and Becky Bacon as well as one brother.


Ed is survived by daughter Sherry (Ray Campbell) Smith of Bucyrus; grandchildren Vosh (Casey Dye) Campbell, Shaylee (Matt Hall) Campbell, Jessica (Joey Momenee) Campbell, and Jennifer Coburn as well as her son Dylan; sisters Peggy (James) Brown of Bucyrus and Debbie Zornes of Bucyrus; brother Lew (Loma) Smith of Bellevue; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.



Ed attended Bucyrus High School and  lived most of his life in Bucyrus where he worked for a short time at Timken but followed his passion as a carpenter.  He managed American Home Craft in Marion for several years. One of his most memorable jobs was building the alter at Epworth United Methodist Church as well as a spiral staircase.  He was a believer in Christ and enjoyed playing with his grandchildren when they were younger as well as cooking meals during Thanksgiving and Christmas.
