Biography: LaVeta Cook Byrne, age 84, flew home to be with her heavenly family on January 8, 2018 following an extended period of convalescence. She resided at Fairhaven Community, Mrs. Byrne was born on June 30, 1933 in Bucyrus, Ohio to parents, Ksenia and John Cook. She graduated from Ohio State University with a degree in elementary education in 1956. She married Robert Byrne in 1954. They made their home in Bucyrus. She was an elementary school teacher at Whetstone Elementary school. She proceeded to be a full time mom and caregiver to six children.
Mrs. Byrne was a patient and supportive teacher with a passion for family, gardening, education, and helping everyone in her life to be the most they could be, particularly the aspirations of her children and grandchildren. She was an avid fan and supporter of Bucyrus High school and Wynford High school band and athletics particularly in tennis, football, and track, ie. every school event where her children and grandchildren participated. Some of her favorite hobbies were singing, gardening, reading, family activities, and playing the piano. She was an active member in her church family and church covenant group at the Bucyrus First Presbyterian church for 62 years.
Mrs. Byrne is survived by her six children and their spouses ; Robert and Barbara, Debra and David, Kathleen, James and Odilia, Diane and Raymond, and Charles; 19 grandchildren, and 19 great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband, Robert Austin, her brother John Victor Cook, and mother and father, Ksenia Gorbova Cook and John Earnest Cook.
Mrs. Byrne will have a public memorial service on February 10, 2018 at 11:00am at the First Presbyterian Church, Bucyrus, Ohio. All are welcome to attend and celebrate.
