John Freeman Kalb, 75 of rural Bucyrus passed away on Sunday April 2, 2023 at the Kobacker House in Columbus.  John was born April 1, 1948 in Bucyrus to the late Freeman and Eugenia (Inloes) Kalb.  He was married April 3, 1971 to Susan C. (Fleming) Kalb who preceded him in death on July 14, 2015.  John was also preceded in death by brother Don Kalb.

John is survived by daughters Mollie (Jake) Zinser of Bucyrus, Angie (Brett) DeGray of Galion, and Julie Kalb of Marengo; grandchildren Tara (Sam) Allinger, Macey Zinser, Payne and John DeGray; brothers Butch (Robyn) Kalb of Columbus, Tom (Connie) Kalb of Bucyrus, and Dave (Cathy) Schwemley of Bloomville; sister in law Christine Kalb of Cincinnati; as well as his extended family.

John graduated from Wynford High School in 1966 and was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1968.  He was a Specialist IV as a Radio Transmission Technician for Signal Corp stationed in Wurzburg, Germany.  John retired from the Timken Company after 30 years and following retirement working part time 15 years for the Farmers Coop in Monnett.

John loved the outdoors, hunting, fishing, trapping, and spending time in the woods. He was an avid fan of the Cleveland Indians and NASCAR.  He was a life member of the National Rifle Association, the American Legion Post 181, as well as being a member of the National Trapper's Assoc., Ohio State Trappers, Nazareth Lutheran Church, Lykens Conservation League, North American Hunt Club, and N.W. Ohio Fur Traders.

John was a longtime member of the Wynford Athletic Boosters and served on the Wynford Board of Education.  For over 20 years, John was the bookkeeper for the Wynford Girls Basketball.

A Memorial Service will be held in the Nazareth Lutheran Church on Wednesday April 26, 2023 at 11:00 am and the family will receive friends from 10:00 am until the time of the service.  Memorials may be made to the Nazareth Lutheran Church, the Sue Kalb/ Sandy Redman Scholarship Fund at Wynford, or the Kobacker House Hospice, 800 McConnell Dr., Columbus, OH  43214.  Expressions of sympathy can be left at www.munzpirnstill.com
