Joan C. Swain

Joan C. Swain, 84 of Bucyrus passed away peacefully at the home of her daughter on Friday January 23, 2026. Joan was born April 8, 1941, in Canton to the late Ralph and Edna (Vanhorn) Crider. She was married June 2, 1962, to Jerry L. Swain who preceded her in death on July 24, 2013.

Joan is survived by children Scott S. (Denise) Swain of Marion and Hope E. (James David) Smith of Galion; sister Shirley Young of North Carolina; brother and sister-in-law Dennis and Sara Swain of Townsend, TN; along with several grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

Joan graduated in 1959 from Timken Vocational High School in Canton. She lived most of her life in Bucyrus and was a homemaker. Joan worked at Lidderdale's Interior Furnishings prior to meeting her husband.

Joan enjoyed cooking and baking her famous chocolate chip cheesecake for friends and family and she enjoyed reading so much that her daughter would order 8 Large Print Books a month for her to enjoy. Joan also enjoyed traveling to the State of Ohio with her husband in their 1966 Chevy Nova Deuce to car shows winning many awards.

A Graveside service will be held on April 8, 2026, at 2:30 pm in Oakwood Cemetery. The family suggests memorials be made to Avita Hospice through the Munz-Pirnstill Funeral Home. Expressions of sympathy can be left at www.munzpirnstill.com
