James “Jim” Alton Bennett, 66, passed away April 29, 2026 in Galion Ohio. Jim was born to the late Eugene John Bennett and Willa May Lester, May 26, 1959 in Bucyrus Ohio. Jim was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Jamie Shaffer; brothers, John Bennett and Ernie Bennett; sister, Beverly Bennett.
Jim is survived by his daughter, Stephanie Bennett; brother, Randall Bennett; grandchildren, Zane Seybert, Karleigh Hickman, Avery Wagner, Kimberly Burling, Emery Wagner, Ivan Pirnstill, and Ellie Wagner; many nieces and nephews; and Jim had many German Shepherds through the years, leaving behind Hector, his beloved dog.
Jim was a graduate of Bucyrus High School, class of ’77. Jim went on from there to serve in the United States Army as a mechanic. For a few years, Jim worked in Masonry and was a part of the project for building Buckeye Central Schools. After his service, Jim started working with Aspen and became a tree trimmer for 20+ years. With his knowledge and experience, he later would do tree trimming work on his own.
Jim was an avid outdoorsman type of guy. He loved camping and going arrowhead hunting. With a mechanical mind, he also enjoyed working on cars and helping family with their cars if he could. Jim would also go by the nickname “Rev” if you saw him out and about. He would always lend a hand, and barely knew a stranger.
The family will receive friends at Munz-Pirnstill Funeral Home from 4PM-6PM Thursday, May 7th. Memorials may be made through the funeral home. Moments of remembrance may be left online at www.munzpirnstill.com
