Harry Hugh Long

Biography: Harry Hugh Long, 81, of Bucyrus passed away Wednesday July 27, 2016 at home following complications from a broken heart over the loss of his wife Marilyn March 5, 2016 and ongoing medical problems.  Harry was born June 2, 1935 in Tiffin, Ohio to the late Clarence E. and Anna (Kraft) Long.  On June 10, 1956 he married Marilyn M. (Bush) Long who welcomed him into heaven.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by daughter Dana VanAntwerp in 2004, brother Clarence E. Long II, and sister Thelma Hickam.
 
Harry is survived by his children Lisa (Larry) Preisler, Richmond Heights, OH; Linda (George) Dawson, Mansfield; Denise (Ian) Long of LasCassas, TN; grandchildren Shawn (Sarah) Stansbery, Effie (Drea) Stansbery, Shana VanAntwerp, Shannon (Kevin) VanAntwerp, Allan (Mandie) Stansbery, Somer (Rob) Knipp, and Laura (David) Walker; great grandchildren Malea and Bristol, numerous step grandchildren and step great grandchildren; and sisters Patricia Powell, Bucyrus and Alice (Steve) Ashwell, Galion.
 
Harry was a proud Veteran of the U.S. Air Force.  He entered the U.S. Air Force on Dec. 1, 1954.  He was a AC&W Opr upon his honorable discharge in 1960.  While in the U.S. Air Force he received a National Defense Service Medal and a Good Conduct Medal.  He was stationed at Bellefontaine AFS when he met Marilyn and the rest is history. 
 
Harry was a member of the AMVETS Post 27 and VFW Post 8999, and past member of the American Legion, Elks, and Moose Lodge.
 
Harry retired from General Motors in the early 1990’s and enjoyed golfing, fishing, hunting, bowling, playing softball, spending time with his wife, daughters, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and friends.  He was an avid Ohio State Buckeyes Fan.  His life revolved around his family and he would do anything for them.  He attended every sporting event, band and choir concert, and was a girls’ softball coach.  Harry was a fixture at Band Parent’s and Boosters meetings.  Any friends of his daughters were welcomed at his home at any time.  Harry was also a youth leader with Marilyn at Bucyrus UMC and sang in the choir.
Harry was his daughters’ first love and their hero.  His life was never the same after he lost the love of his life, but they are once again reunited.
 
Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday at 11:00 am in the Munz-Pirnstill Funeral Home with Rev. Mike Corwin officiating, burial will follow, with Military Honors, in Oakwood Cemetery.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday from 5-7 pm.  In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be in the form of contributions to the Cr. Co. Veterans Memorial Fund or the donors Choice.  Expressions of sympathy can be left at munzpirnstill.com
