David K. Spence

Biography:  David K. Spence, 70 of Bucyrus passed away on Thursday July 13, 2017 at Altercare of Bucyrus. David was born July 11, 1947 in Twin Branch WV to the late Ransom and Erma (Bloomer) Spence.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers Jimmie and Billy Spence as well as sister Nina Stafford.
 
David is survived by daughter Michele (Ed) Johns, Bucyrus; grandchildren Eric, Nathan, Dustin (Amber), and Camron Johns; brother Bobby Spence, Bucyrus; and sisters Brenda Fried and Betty Welge both of Bucyrus and Sherry Black of Marion.
 
David attended school at Bucyrus and Colonel Crawford as well as two years of Business College.  He worked at Swan Rubber for a short time prior to entering the Military.  A 21 year service Veteran, David served two terms of duty in Vietnam and attained the rank of Master Sgt. Following his military duty he went to work for AM General in Indiana as a Tech Representative for Hummer Vehicles working in Egypt as well as throughout the world.  He was a member of the Am. Legion Post 181 and was inducted into the Crawford County Veterans Hall of Fame in 2014.  David enjoyed his time with his train layout in the basement and driving his Corvette.
 
David’s Military awards included the Bronze Star Medal (4 OLC); Vietnam Service Medal; Army Good Conduct Medal (6th Award); Nat. Defense Service Medal; Purple Heart; Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal; Vietnam Cross of Gallantry W/Palm (unit); Army Commendation Medal (1 OLC); Meritorious Service Medal; Army Service Ribbon; the Overseas Service Ribbon (3); the Combat Infantry Badge; and the NCO Professional Development Ribbon (Advanced).
 
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday at 1:00 pm in the Munz-Pirnstill Funeral Home with burial to follow in Oakwood Cemetery.  Military Rites will be provided by the American Legion Post 181.  The family will receive friends from 11:00 am until the time of the service.  Memorials may be given to the Gifts for Yanks and expressions of sympathy can be left at www.munzpirnstill.com
