Carol I. Van Meter

Biography: Carol  I. Van Meter, 81 of Bucyrus passed away on Monday November 16, 2020 at Westbrook Assisted Living in Upper Sandusky.  Carol was born April 21, 1939 in Chatfield Twp, Crawford Co. to the late Chester and Fern (Geissman) Gottfried.  She was married March 30, 1963 to Charles "Red" Van Meter who preceded her in death on August 7, 1996.  She was also preceded in death by step children Jerry Van Meter and Nancy Smathers as well as sister Mae Gottfried and sister in law Pat Gottfried. 

Carol is survived by son John (Mandy) Van Meter of Bucyrus; grandchildren Ashton, Allie, and Sydney Van Meter; Ashley Barber, Andrea Lambert, Micheal (Courtney) Barber; step children Sue (Garvin) Bollinger of Bucyrus and Bill (Donna) Van Meter of North Carolina; step grandchildren Curtis Smathers, Jenna Bollinger, Abby (Eric) Stockmaster, Barry (Crystal) Van Meter, Brian and Elizabeth Van Meter; brother Virgil Gottfried of N. Carolina. 

Carol worked in the shipping department of the Timken Co. for 15 years.  She graduated from Chatfield H.S. in 1957.  Carol was a member the Bucyrus Methodist Church and when a member of Woodlawn UMC was involved with the Women of the Church, sang in the choir, and assisted in the Bell Choir.  Carol also enjoyed making greeting cards. 
The family will receive friends at the Munz-Pirnstill Funeral Home on Thursday from 4:00 to 6:00 pm.  Funeral Services will be held on Friday at 11:00 am in the funeral home with burial to follow in Oceola Cemetery.  The family suggests memorials be made to the Bucyrus Methodist Church and expressions of sympathy can be left at www.munzpirnstill.com
