Alex Franklin Messer Jr., 78 of Bucyrus passed away on Tuesday February 27, 2024 at home.  Alex was born August 14, 1945 in Logan Co., West Virginia to the late Alex F. Messer Sr. and Carrie Rosetta (Walls) Woodrum.  He was also preceded in death by sisters Margaret Minner, Connie Gibson, Mary Stanley, Dora Ferris, and Opal Messer, as well as nephew Jeff Ferris.

Alex is survived by children Alex F. Messer III, Tony (Jackie) Messer, Rodney (Stacey) Hunt, Tammy Treese, Carlos Hunt, and Charma Schifer; grandchildren Chelsey, Austin, Seth, Chase, Paige, Mason, Rustie, Brittany, Jacob, Bryan, Faith, Kiyran, Mauricio, Tateeona, James Dustin, Stanley, and Kayla; several great grandchildren; half brother Arlie Woodrum; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Alex lived most of his life in Bucyrus and last worked for Hubbell Incorporated as a fork lift operator and mechanic.  He was a Decorated Vietnam Veteran receiving the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal W/DVC 60, Army Commendation Medal, Good Conduct Medal, 1st Award, and the Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm.

Alex was a Ford Guy and liked vintage cars and trucks.   He enjoyed Bluegrass Music, fishing, camping, traveling and most of all his family.

The family will receive friends at the Munz-Pirnstill Funeral Home on Thursday from 4:00 pm until 6:00 pm with Funeral Services scheduled for Friday at 1:00 pm.  Services will be officiated by Rev. Ray LaSalle and burial will be in the Oakwood Cemetery.  The family suggests memorials be made to the St. Jude’s Childrens Hospital and expressions of sympathy can be left at www.munzpirnstill.com
