Joanne Elizabeth (Waines) Tobin passed away at Bucyrus Community Hospital at 7:25PM on September 15, 2009 following an extended illness. She was born on October 16, 1926 to the late Aaron and Edith (Knowles) Waines of Shelby, Ohio.
She completed her nurse's training at St Vincent Charity Hospital in Cleveland Ohio, where she received an RN in 1948. She worked at Rainbow Children's Hospital where she cared for seriously and terminally ill children. She later received her Bachelor's degree in nursing from the University of Cincinnati in 1953. Following graduation, she continued to work as a nurse in the Shelby area. In 1954, she married Marvin Grover Tobin of New Washington, Ohio.
She is survived by her four children: Sandra Tobin of Fort Wayne; Karen (William) Conner of Pittsburgh; Thomas Tobin of Spanish Fort, Alabama; and Cheryl Tobin of New Washington. She is also survived by her two sisters: Marilyn Richards of Dublin, Ohio and Shirley Greenslade of Shelby, as well as three sisters-in-law and one brother-in-law: Frances Waines of Shelby, Alice Pfahler of North Robinson, and Genevieve and Harold Osborn of Westerville.
She was preceded in death by her husband Marvin Grover who died December 28, 2007. She was also preceded in death by her brother Robert Waines, and brothers-in-law: George Richards, Albert Greenslade, Ralph Pfahler, Frank Wechter and sister-in-law Aldora Wechter.
Joanne was a much loved woman who generously gave to others. Her sense of humor and gracious spirit were well known and much delighted in by those who knew her. She had a profound impact on the lives of many people through her caring actions and honest spirituality.
Calling hours will be at Munz-Pirnstill Funeral Home in Bucyrus on Friday from 2:30- 4:00 PM with services immediately following. Burial will be in Union Cemetery.
