Edgar "Ed" R. Bealer, 84, of 150 Penn Ave. Bucyrus died Sunday afternoon in the Bucyrus Community Hospital from a brief illness.

Ed was born October 5, 1925 in Portsmouth, Ohio and was the son of the late Edgar and Zella (Altman) Bealer.
On September 21, 1959 he married Beatrice Lee and she preceded him in death May 7, 1998. Ed is also preceded in death by an infant brother Thomas Eugene and grandson Eddie Rinehart Bealer.

He is survived by a daughter Barb (Tim) Rigdon of Bucyrus, son Gary (Nancy) Bealer of Nashville, Tennessee, 5 Grandchildren Timmy II, Mylah, Roberta, Rachel & Maria, a step-granddaughter Shustien Green, a brother Elwood (Barb) Bealer of Grove City, Ohio, a sister Emma (Delbert) Bays of Portsmouth, Ohio and a close friend and companion Ida Petroff.

Ed served in the U.S. Army during W.W. II and was a member of the American Legion Post #181 and Loyal Order of the Moose #669 both of Bucyrus. He worked at the Shelby Depot and had worked for over thirty years at Timken until his retirement. Ed was an active member of the First Christian Church in Bucyrus and had been the financial secretary for over thirty years. His interests included model trains and caligraphy writing.

Calling hours will be Friday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8pm in the Munz-Pirnstill Funeral Home. Funeral service will be Saturday Oct. 24, 2009 in the First Christian Church at 1PM with Pastor Brad Smith and Jack Hager officiating. Burial with military honors provided by the American Legion will be in Oakwood Cemetery. Memorial Contributions may be made to the First Christian Church in care of the funeral home.
